The LWVKA Board has voted to support renewal of the Kalamazoo County Senior Millage, which will appear on the August 6, 2024 ballot.
ACTION: The LWVKA Board urges LWVKA members to:
- Vote yes for the Kalamazoo County Senior Millage on August 6, 2024
- Urge friends, family and other county residents to vote yes for the Kalamazoo County Senior Millage on August 6, 2024
Background:
- Voters approved the Kalamazoo County Senior Millage in 2018 for 6 years, through the 2023 levy.
- The proposed levy is a 0.3462-mill property tax renewal for another 6 years.
- Funds from the millage improve the safety, dignity and independence of older adults by providing services such as home care and healthy living classes for Kalamazoo County residents aged 60 and above.
- The millage assisted more than 9500 older adults and informal caregivers in 2023.
- The funds are administered by the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department Area Agency on Aging, Region 3A.
- With funds from the millage, 45 different services and projects are provided by 27 contracted organizations. For example, the millage funds home-delivered meals, home repair, hearing aids, transportation and caregiver support programs.
- In 2023, 100% of the revenue collected ($3.7 million) was allocated, supporting older adults.
